Location and General Access

Maglavit commune is located in Dolj county, in the extreme south-west of Romania, only 12 km from the municipality of Calafat and approximately 80 km from Craiova. Located on the upper terrace of the Danube, the town offers easy access to the most important road and naval arteries in Oltenia.

Whether you want to visit the Maglavit Monastery, explore the protected areas on the banks of the river or be part of local community projects, you have multiple options for car, rail and air transport.

The easiest way to access Maglavit is on the national road DN56 (European road E79) that connects Craiova with Calafat. From the national road DN56A branches off towards Vânju Mare and Drobeta-Turnu Severin. The road is modernized, well signposted and accessible all year round.

There are regular daily minibuses and coaches on the route Craiova – Podari – Radovan – Perișor – Galicea Mare – Maglavit – Calafat. The boarding points in Craiova are located in the area of ​​the North Bus Station and the South Bus Station.

For traveling by train, the main railway station is Calafat Train Station (12 km away), connected by the Craiova – Calafat railway line. Local transport and taxi services to Maglavit are available from Calafat train station.

The nearest international airport is Craiova International Airport (CRA), located 88 km from Maglavit. From the airport you can rent cars or use direct road routes to Calafat.
